This book has a great deal of valuable information--no question. It is quite apparent that the author has an incredible amount of knowledge in soldering and brazing. Unfortunately, it is written a little "above" a beginner, both in terms of vocabulary and basic technique. Finally, the book is written from a "Brit" perspective, proving once again that the English and the Americans are a people separated by a common language. Hard to understand the terminology and "slang", so to speak. Often very difficult to follow the instructions given. I will be looking for a different book to help me learn better technique. Maybe this book can be used later to fill in the blanks after I learn better how to improve my soldering and brazing skills.

Gives a good first approximation of spring design; math is relatively simple.

Always great reading. I'm slowly getting all of the Workshop Practice series of books for my library. Outstanding value. Must have if you have a decent home shop.

I'm a professional wedding planner. When I first started planning weddings five years ago (for friends, I had no idea at the time that I'd one day be doing this professionally) I read pretty much every wedding planning book I could get my hands on that didn't seem totally insane, because that's what I do when I want to learn about something - I read. And while I picked up some helpful pieces here and there, there was not a single book that I loved overall. I wish that this book had been around then.Now, I didn't learn anything from this book, but that's because, well, I now do this professionally. However, if you're not a professional wedding planner? You will learn things. Good things. Things like how to find an affordable venue, and that it's OK to sometimes cry during the planning process, and why you should focus on your ceremony, and when and why you need to ask for help.It's a wedding planning book that manages to deal with both logistics (important! weddings are full of logistics, and they are often overwhelming) and, probably even more importantly, also deals with the often intense emotional logistics around weddings and marriages. It reminds you that your wedding is not just a big party, it is the start of your marriage.So go buy it, and buy a copy for your mother, and copies for all of your friends who are getting married. This book is definitely my new go-to engagement party gift. If you are a regular reader of the APW blog, rest assured that it's different than the website. The book walks you through wedding planning from engagement to post-honeymoon, all in a concise, smart, practical way. It pulls from many of the wisest posts on the site, but is in fact an entirely new piece of work that is valuable in an entirely different way to anyone who's planning a wedding.The wedding industry in America gets a bad rap for a reason - it's generally full of people and organizations who are trying to get you to buy more, do more, stress more. Couples who are getting married need all the help they can get in getting away from this - it's insidious, and can trap even the most sane, laid back people into thinking that they have to do things a certain way, because it's a wedding and it has to be perfect. My favorite line in the book is tied between "There is a whole wedding marketing machine set up to sell you the perfect wedding, but the reality is, things are going to go wrong on your wedding day. That's fine. It's great, even. It's the imperfections that make the day yours." and (a quote from a real-life former bride) "I honestly just gave it up to Jesus. I mean, WWJD anyway? He wouldn't stress about anyone handing out some program fans, I'll bet you that much."Truth.

It's like having a wedding therapist in my pocket for every phase of wedding planning! (I'm making up the term 'wedding therapist' but realistically it should probably be a thing) Meg's advice is sensible, funny, and oh-so-spot-on. Her smart observations about the wedding industry, familial expectations, and the ups and downs of wedding planning are such a breath of fresh air, and she does a great job gently reminding the reader within each chapter about what's really important when planning a wedding (here's a hint, it's agreeing to spend the rest of your life with another human) without being overbearing or self-righteous. Reading this book was a huge relief (because wedding planning can make even the most down-to-earth couple feel like crazy people), and it has already helped us make faster, more confident decisions about our upcoming day. I *highly* recommend this book to any bride or groom (or overly-involved mother, or pushy best friend, or strangely nosy co-worker) who is not sure where to start with the wedding process.

As a newly engaged man, I am glad I took the time to read this book. It helps to simplify the wedding planning process and has a reassuring tone that is an excellent balm from the frantic tone of the wedding industry. It did not bother me that the expected audience for the book is clearly women, with references to your future husband, your bridesmaids, etc.My advice would be to not do what I did, and buy this book at the same time as Keene's other wedding book, "A Practical Wedding Planner." The content of that book is very similar to this one, and I did not feel that having the second book was all that useful.

Really good book. A lot of it is just common sense - but honestly, you NEED common sense when you're wedding planning. You need a voice of reason to cut through all the BS that you hear from every vendor/family member/website/magazine/Pinterest board. It is a calm, logical voiceReading this book is the first thing I did after getting engaged and before really starting to plan my wedding. I think it's mostly helpful at the very beginning because it kind of helps you think through what you really want and develop a good attitude toward wedding planning. There aren't a lot of "concrete" wedding planning tips in here - it doesn't talk about the different types of napkin folds or how to calculate how much booze to buy or how to start the process of changing your name. What it does do it makes you think about what kind of celebration you want, and gives supportive advice for navigating the emotional drama and frustration that can come with planning.

Another great book to add to the 5 senses lessons.

I really don't care for the illustrations. Katie looks strangely deformed. The story was alright, but I found the illustrations unsettling.

My students really enjoyed the story.

This book was gifted to me by the writer to read and review. I enjoyed it. It is a book that can be read independently or read to younger children and pre-readers as a bed time story. The little girl Katie likes to read and learn, and starting with her hearing she explores the different sounds she can hear, loud and soft, high and low, and relates the sounds to everyday things like music, or a dog barking. She compares sweet and sour tastes and good and bad tastes. It goes the same way through all the five senses. I think it would encourage a child to come up with their own examples taken from their own life experiences and help them to express themselves.The language is child appropriate and straightforward, but the rhythm of the rhymes is not so good at times, a bit uneven. The American spelling would have to be adjusted if the book is to be sold on the British market, but on the whole this is a very nice book and the illustrations are excellent.

Katie Did is a simple picture book that takes the reader through the many ways and activities that we use for our senses. This is not only great for teaching about the five senses to younger children, but a great way to prepare an older child to do some sensory writing. This is great for a refresher.

My daughter really paid attention. I appreciated the questions at the end of the book; they helped her recall what she’d heard and it taught her better. Illustrations could’ve been helped, but that’s the only complaint.
