I bought this book to introduce the celebration of Diwali to the children at my school. We have a large population of families from India and we wanted to represent them with a few Diwali festivities. One of the mothers came in and read this book to the children and it provided a wonderful explanation of what Diwali is. The illustrations are gorgeous as well!

I've read two of these already, but this one is my favorite.Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is celebrated around this time of year (end of October/early November). In these pages, the background behind Diwali is very quickly hit upon (the goddess and how the light invites her in), allowing the main focus to remain on the preparation and practices during the five day celebration. For a board book, there is enough text, but it never comes across as too much. Rather, it's perfect to read-aloud and flows with enough of a 'story time' flare to keep it interesting. It probably won't hold the interest of the youngest listeners, but children ages four and up will pick up on the information and have no trouble understanding what is going on.The illustrations are bright, detailed and bring the scenes to life without growing confusing or over-packed. The people's expressions bring across the joy and make it difficult not to want to dive into the pages and celebrate with the characters.While Dewali is a celebration many readers may not have heard about before, this book does a great job of making the basic background and rituals understandable. While younger listeners will enjoy gazing at the illustrations, slight older listeners (ages four and up) will be more able to grasp the holiday and the celebration.I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed this one the most in the series, so I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.

Do you know you are being harshly judged by strangers? This is what you learn by reading the Uber Chronicles by the author Jessie Newburn.The book was revealing showing me the world of the Uber experience from the point of view of the driver. My experience reading the book was similar to watching a car accident that makes you cringe but at the same time you cannot look away.In each of her stories she continuously puts down her passengers as lower class to herself. "Nerdy young man who I figure is still a virgin", a man who she she thinks suspect that she is casing his house for robbery, passengers using perfumes with scents that have "no sophistication". It rubbed me the wrong way that she always pointed out the race of each of her riders as the first thing she mentions whether it is relevant to the story or not.She also uses the book to promote her other business - a multi-level-marking scheme for a brain health supplement - without disclosing side effects with the supplement involved in the scheme.Even though I did not enjoy the book, I rate it as Okay as I did learn something about the Uber driver experience.Ali Julia review

I really enjoy the short-story voyeuristic charm that the Uber Chronicles offers its readers. Or it's fly-on-the-wall "vibe" as the author might more likely say. Sometimes you're just in the mood for a light hearted distraction that you can dip in and pop out of at will or as your schedule permits. Unless maybe you've happened upon a few free hours of down time and want something you can easily enjoy in one setting. Which ever your circumstance, the Uber Chronicles will oblige. The natural born people watcher that I am loves this series and I always look forward to discovering who we're going meet in each of the chronicles. For these reasons and many more, I highly recommend. (insert thumbs emoticon here)

Once again Jessie has invited us into the world of Uber and a brief glimpse into the lives of the passengers she encounters. Very though provoking. As an Uber driver myself, her Chronicles has helped me to view my passengers in a new light, gleaning bits of insight and discovering new lessons to be learned from each passenger. A good read is never further away than getting inside the characters that make up the story, and few could encapsulate a personality with the wit, wisdom and frivolity that Jessie does in the Uber Chronicles. The unique take here is, those characters, are made up of a random sampling of Joe and Jane Public that happened to win the driver of Jessie Newburn on their Uber App when they touch screened for a ride. An Uber ride, that you and I would likely take for granted, is transformed into a completely OTHER world as Jessie puts you right in the car with her on these adventures. Unique, entertaining, and definitely thought provoking...worth a read and definitely worth a share.

Jessie is not only a competent driver, she is also a keen observer. I have enjoyed each installment of Uber Chronicles and I am already eager to read the next one. If you are curious about people, climb in, buckle up, and take a vicarious ride with a kindred spirit. Jessie will let you ride along as she goes places and meets people she encounters through her Uber experiences.

Did you think an alternative would be the basement? There were a few gems. Judging by the author's prolific offerings, maybe she is churning them out as fast as possible to get paid. However, spell check software is free and utilizing an editor would only improve her work. This was so poorly edited that the reader was constantly taken out of the story. Killed the vibe!

Screwged is a sexy holiday treat by Madison Faye. This is the story of two brooding Ceo's named Brock and Seamus who are crushing on their employee named, Noelle. They're also on the hunt to track who is the rat in their company. During questioning Brock and Seamus make it known that they share everything and that will also include Noelle. Will she give into temptation and take on these two? This book was taboo, sizzling, engaging with some mystery and twists. Overall I felt it was fun, steamy and thrilling and I loved every second of it it.

This, like of the previous books before it, is the same recipe. A large helping of steamy sex, uber quick timelines; and little to no backstory. Just like the previous books, it was a good, quick read.

I am a Madison Faye junkie to the extreme lol. I seriously loved this super quick read. For such a short read i was a highlighting fool, the dirty talk was a step above!! The only downside was the book ends at 84% without any forewarning. If your a Madison Faye lover or love reading the down & dirty you will enjoy this holiday romp.

Naughty, filthy and scandalous sums up this authors writing perfectly. If you are looking for a quick and dirty holiday read this is the book for you. The chemistry between the three MCs is explosive. There was a slight twist at the end that gave all of them justice. I can’t wait to see what this author puts out next!

I've read books by this author before and even though I've enjoyed them, I thought this one would be like the others I've read. Boy was I surprised! This one has a twist near the end which elevated the story (in my opinion). I won't spoil it by describing the twist, read it and find out.

This is is one of the Hottest books I've read. I really enjoyed the twist at the end. Not just a 'Panty Soaking Wet' read ... It also has an interesting plot to it. I NEVER give reviews on books... But this one I Just Had To!

I really enjoyed reading this book. It differs from the other Patrick Moore Series books on home observatories in that the selection is limited more to things mere mortals might actually build, with enough detail to get you thinking. The examples in this book range from domes (both homemade and commercial) to a box just big enough to stow a 10" Dob on the patio (nicknamed the "Sentry Box"). There several other very clever small format schemes shown too.In general, the emphasis is on getting the most bang for your buck and keeping the observatory appearance in keeping with it's surroundings. Several memorable "garden shed" like buildings are purpose-built observatories. One of my favorites is a fellow how hacked out a piece of his garage roof and slapped a sliding panel over it. It worked fine for him because there were streetlights nearby and the high walls were needed to block out those lights anyhow.And while I wanted more, there were actually quite a few example of remote control. Some of the "observatories" were little more than telescope houses perched near the house and run by remote control.This book is a keeper as far as I'm concerned. There are lots of practical hints I want to refer back to if I ever undertake building my own observatory.

I totally enjoyed this book! There were many helpful tips and observations from authors that have "been there and done that!" One of the other reviewers noted that he thought this was "padded" with extraneous information. I would disagree because I found much of the surrounding information thoughtful and additive to my project. Ultimately, some of the "additional information" has already saved me some serious money! The topic is well described and has some brilliant ideas. I am buying a second copy for my son's project. Perhaps it will cover an item or two that was not obvious and save an expensive mistake!

This is a good overall book on small observatories. I gave it 4 stars because some of the information is dated. The text is also small. I have a number of books by this same publisher and the text is small on all of them. Highlights are shown in even smaller text on a grey background. Not good and somewhat tedious to read. However, if you want to find out the basics of what's needed in a small observatory and see some examples around the world, this is it.

This book is well written in a down to earth manner so that the concept of setting up a small Observatory is easily comprehended. Loaded with examples and reasons why you should or should not do certain things. Hints on making Observatories and their pluses and minuses can help those thinking of building their own Observatory. A worthwhile read.

Couldn't hardly wait for it to get here. I read it in one evening and started clearing away a spot the next day. I am now going to pick up the lumber and cement. It is really a great read and answered many of my questions.

Well, the book definitely provided the information it promised. I feel much more prepared to build my own observatory now. But it strayed from the stated subject often and filled up pages with astronomy and telescope information that is available elsewhere. I got the feeling that it was padded - or maybe just mistitled. Maybe it should have been called "Setting-Up a Small Observatory: From Concept to Construction and a Bunch of Other Stuff You Probably Already Know Since You Are Considering an Observatory of Your Own Anyway".Don't hesitate to buy it for the information you need. Just be prepared for a bit of wandering.

Very Good book - Nice case studies from a wide variety of designs. Super descriptions. Lacks a little on the observatory diagram side but the narrative does cover many of the pitfalls. if you are thinking of setting up a home observatory - you could do worse ! I Like it !

Great reference for anyone starting out as an amateur astronomer. Very detail and complete. Helped me set up my observatory.

Some others reviews have claimed this book is good for an introduction to modern opengl. Although it could be used for a such a purpose, I wouldn't recommend using it that way. The introduction portion is entirely in the first chapter and is awkwardly organized with too much emphasis on largely redundant shader examples with not enough emphasis on the opengl code required to use the shaders. Furthermore, the writing is super dry and suffers from some pacing issues (some minor things are explained in a drawn out matter while some more advanced items are glossed over).That being said, there is a lot of useful information in this book and a lot of interesting topics are covered. This would make an excellent second book in your collection. Get your introduction from another book like "Anton's OpenGL 4 Tutorials", and use this book in the manner the title suggests - a cookbook with recipes for handling various topics.

I taught a beginners (undergrad) course on OpenGL Shading and this book was instrumental in making the course possible. It has very little fluff, is written in a very clean, well structured manner, and is easy to approach. The assumption is that people already know a good bit of programming and have some familiarity with Graphics APIs. I would say this is THE book to read for someone who is already familiar with legacy OpenGL and wants to upgrade to shader programming and new APIs.

Awesome book. The author is very helpful in fixing source code problems on GitHub as well. Samples are compact, organized, and intuitive to understand if you have experience with C++ and platform-independent windowing systems such as SFML, SDL, or in this case GLFW.

Maybe useful if you know absolutely nothing about GLSL. Even then, the docs are more useful.

It is very useful for me. Because it teach from the ground. I recommend this book for novice.

I have been able to run all the examples, although I have only finished the first four chapters (162 pages out of 369). Actually, the Uniform Block example didn't work as the fragment shader used the elements of the uniform block without giving the block name first (e.g. using InnerColor versus BlobSettings.InnerColor). Make sure you have set glUseProgram() before doing calls like glGetUniformIndices().
