I downloaded this book to my kindle while vacationing in Roatan last week. It was awesome to read this book while in Roatan and visit the spots mentioned in the book as I was reading it. But most importantly, it happened to be the exact book I needed to read. Truly inspirational, it has opened my eyes and given me a new and more promising outlook on life. Usually I am sad to go home from such a great vacation, but this time, after finishing this book, I am excited to put the things i learned to action! Thanks Chas!

"To Hold the Sun" was originally written for the author's children, but its wisdom and teachings are salient for all ages. Watkins drives home the point that we are masters of our own fate, not meant to passively catch a ride on the wave of time, but rather actively, consciously, and passionately direct ourselves towards our goals. Self-help literature usually force feeds the reader quick fixes and cliche solutions to common problems - Watkins encourages quite a different approach through a character named Paul. Through repeated demonstrations of small yet meaningful changes that you can easily implement in your own life, Watkins shows the reader that long-lasting change is truly possible. Additionally, he draws on studies from neuroscience and psychology to show that our short-sighted solutions to society's pervasive problems are untenable in the face of current research. This is a thought-provoking read that will leave you inspired to make changes in your own life!

This book woke up something in me that I thought had disappeared many years ago. Joy. Life sometimes has a way of taking that childhood innocence out of us as we age because of the adversities that we have all had to face. Some face it and overcome, some of us just continue to try and get by and exist as best we can, and living day to day without joy or hope. This book made me remember that happiness is something that I hold in my own two hands and I cannot expect anyone else to make me happy or love life. It is my responsibility. I had forgotten so much of these feelings. This is an exceptional read that I will keep proudly in my library and will pull it out again and again to remind myself how to find my joy.

"To Hold the Sun" tells the story of a jaded young reporter who travels to a Caribbean island (Roatan) to interview "Paul", a philosopher who is living on the island. He is not getting paid for the work (which tells us that perhaps his career is on the skids) and hopes to generate a series of articles that will revive his career and justify the cost of the trip. From these humble expectations, the series of interviews he conducts become in fact a series of life-lessons, taking the journo on his own exploration of spiritual and intellectual contentment and the pay-off is greater than he could have imagined.Each chapter details one of the reporter's interviews/interactions with Paul which become a series of lessons on Paul's life philosophy - consciously living in a way that promotes happiness and positive emotions as opposed to self-defeating and negative ones. The book is well constructed with a story line engaging enough to bring the reader along through the "lesson" component and want to keep reading. The characters are sympathetic, relatable and the dialog flows with a natural ease (quite a feat considering this is the authors first novel he even handles Carib-english dialogues and accents with a deft touch that gives the impression of having been edited and published before). The life-lessons embedded in each chapter are relevant in that they address issues that all of us have struggled with (whether we are self-aware enough to admit it is another topic and one that is addressed early in the book). More importantly the tools/means to address these issues are presented in a way that seems eminently logical and implementable, likening our emotional and mental responses to that of a physical responses. Just as we can exert self-control over and train certain muscles in our body to achieve goals in a efficient way, we can condition our emotional and mental responses to similarly positive ends.I normally like to read book cover-to-cover but with "To Hold the Sun" I found myself pausing after each chapter to fully absorb the lesson contained within and even put it into practice. And guess what? It works! This is a thoroughly enjoyable and absolutely usable guide to living life with greater happiness and contentment.

I’m not really a “self help” book reader, however this book is not the usual run of the mill variety. The thoughts conveyed in this book are relevant to everyone who is searching for a happy life. The book emphasizes that fact that you can’t depend on others for your happiness, it comes from within, it’s really a mental state. To Hold the Sun helps you focus on your inner strengths and teaches you a different way of looking at the experiences you will encounter on your walk down life’s path.

I have lived on Roatan for many years and read every book that I know of that's been written by ex-pats that live or have lived here. Virtually all are chronicles of their life here, the trials and joys of living on an island off the coast of a third world country. They are all very similar - all of us that live here have pretty common experiences. We've all had very good times and very difficult times. That's part of the excitement of living here.I have to say that "To Hold The Sun" is nothing like those other books! I've known the author for as long as he's been on the island so I was interested to read more of his take on Roatan, to understand his version of island life. This book is so much more than that. It's a great story based on teaching a valuable life lesson. While the setting of this book on Roatan certainly adds interest to people that live or visit here, the locale is not the important aspect of the book. The underlying lesson is the real jewel of this book.Read the book, enjoy the vivid descriptions of our island, but most importantly - listen to what the story is really telling you!Come to Roatan - go to West Bay beach early one morning - maybe you'll happen to see a whacky gringo doing a one-armed handstand on a pier!Great job Chas!

My 16 MO's favorite book. A definite must for all parents!It's fun, and you can even act it out and tickle your little one while you read it. :)It's easy to read, fun to read and short enough where your toddler won't get bored!I highly recommend all of Boynton's books. We have almost the whole collection and I don't regret it. All the books are soo fun to read and illustrated so beautifully!

We love all Sandra Boynton books in our house but I think this one is our favorite. It's so fun and my toddler knows to expect to be tickled and the anticipation is half the fun!

its a great bonding experience for my son and I! I first rented it from the library and read it to my 2 year old who laughed and loves being tickled while I read the book to him. So I ended up buying it and it's one of my favorite books to read to him. It's so cute and a lot of fun! It would make a great gift too. Probably going to buy it for all my sisters too!

We are BIG Sandra Boynton fans in our house. We have every single book! However, this book is just ok. It's more along the lines of the A to Z book in terms of being boring. Basically, every single page says the same thing. My child definitely doesn't go for this book as much as some of the others. My favorite Boynton books are Belly Button Book and Pajama Time.

I was hoping this book would be easy to read with a rhythm like Pajama Time! and Barnyard Dance! (Boynton on Board) and I was only disappointed on one or two pages. I listened to the Tickle Time song on the Rhinoceros Tap album to see what rhythm they use and I didn't like it so I went with my own.I read the words while Mommy chased my 2.5 yr old son around tickling him high and low and big and small. We read it before bedtime and the tickling was a hit with both Mommy and my son. This book is much more fun than the song for us.I rated it 4 out of 5 stars because I just don't like it as much as other board books by Sandra Boynton. I bought this book to introduce the celebration of Diwali to the children at my school. We have a large population of families from India and we wanted to represent them with a few Diwali festivities. One of the mothers came in and read this book to the children and it provided a wonderful explanation of what Diwali is. The illustrations are gorgeous as well!

I've read two of these already, but this one is my favorite.Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is celebrated around this time of year (end of October/early November). In these pages, the background behind Diwali is very quickly hit upon (the goddess and how the light invites her in), allowing the main focus to remain on the preparation and practices during the five day celebration. For a board book, there is enough text, but it never comes across as too much. Rather, it's perfect to read-aloud and flows with enough of a 'story time' flare to keep it interesting. It probably won't hold the interest of the youngest listeners, but children ages four and up will pick up on the information and have no trouble understanding what is going on.The illustrations are bright, detailed and bring the scenes to life without growing confusing or over-packed. The people's expressions bring across the joy and make it difficult not to want to dive into the pages and celebrate with the characters.While Dewali is a celebration many readers may not have heard about before, this book does a great job of making the basic background and rituals understandable. While younger listeners will enjoy gazing at the illustrations, slight older listeners (ages four and up) will be more able to grasp the holiday and the celebration.I received a complimentary copy and enjoyed this one the most in the series, so I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.

This is what you learn by reading the Uber Chronicles by the author Jessie Newburn.The book was revealing showing me the world of the Uber experience from the point of view of the driver. My experience reading the book was similar to watching a car accident that makes you cringe but at the same time you cannot look away.In each of her stories she continuously puts down her passengers as lower class to herself. "Nerdy young man who I figure is still a virgin", a man who she she thinks suspect that she is casing his house for robbery, passengers using perfumes with scents that have "no sophistication". It rubbed me the wrong way that she always pointed out the race of each of her riders as the first thing she mentions whether it is relevant to the story or not.She also uses the book to promote her other business - a multi-level-marking scheme for a brain health supplement - without disclosing side effects with the supplement involved in the scheme.Even though I did not enjoy the book, I rate it as Okay as I did learn something about the Uber driver experience.Ali Julia review

I really enjoy the short-story voyeuristic charm that the Uber Chronicles offers its readers. Or it's fly-on-the-wall "vibe" as the author might more likely say. Sometimes you're just in the mood for a light hearted distraction that you can dip in and pop out of at will or as your schedule permits. Unless maybe you've happened upon a few free hours of down time and want something you can easily enjoy in one setting. Which ever your circumstance, the Uber Chronicles will oblige. The natural born people watcher that I am loves this series and I always look forward to discovering who we're going meet in each of the chronicles. For these reasons and many more, I highly recommend. (insert thumbs emoticon here)

Once again Jessie has invited us into the world of Uber and a brief glimpse into the lives of the passengers she encounters. Very though provoking. As an Uber driver myself, her Chronicles has helped me to view my passengers in a new light, gleaning bits of insight and discovering new lessons to be learned from each passenger. A good read is never further away than getting inside the characters that make up the story, and few could encapsulate a personality with the wit, wisdom and frivolity that Jessie does in the Uber Chronicles. The unique take here is, those characters, are made up of a random sampling of Joe and Jane Public that happened to win the driver of Jessie Newburn on their Uber App when they touch screened for a ride. An Uber ride, that you and I would likely take for granted, is transformed into a completely OTHER world as Jessie puts you right in the car with her on these adventures. Unique, entertaining, and definitely thought provoking...worth a read and definitely worth a share.

Jessie is not only a competent driver, she is also a keen observer. I have enjoyed each installment of Uber Chronicles and I am already eager to read the next one. If you are curious about people, climb in, buckle up, and take a vicarious ride with a kindred spirit. Jessie will let you ride along as she goes places and meets people she encounters through her Uber experiences.

Misspelled words. Sentences with extra words showing a change in thought direction. Duplicates. Sloppy sentences. Of course the helicopter would be kept "up there" on the roof. Did you think an alternative would be the basement? There were a few gems. Judging by the author's prolific offerings, maybe she is churning them out as fast as possible to get paid. However, spell check software is free and utilizing an editor would only improve her work. This was so poorly edited that the reader was constantly taken out of the story. Killed the vibe!

Screwged is a sexy holiday treat by Madison Faye. This is the story of two brooding Ceo's named Brock and Seamus who are crushing on their employee named, Noelle. They're also on the hunt to track who is the rat in their company. During questioning Brock and Seamus make it known that they share everything and that will also include Noelle. Will she give into temptation and take on these two? This book was taboo, sizzling, engaging with some mystery and twists. Overall I felt it was fun, steamy and thrilling and I loved every second of it it.

This, like of the previous books before it, is the same recipe. A large helping of steamy sex, uber quick timelines; and little to no backstory. Just like the previous books, it was a good, quick read.

I am a Madison Faye junkie to the extreme lol. I seriously loved this super quick read. For such a short read i was a highlighting fool, the dirty talk was a step above!! The only downside was the book ends at 84% without any forewarning. If your a Madison Faye lover or love reading the down & dirty you will enjoy this holiday romp.

Naughty, filthy and scandalous sums up this authors writing perfectly. If you are looking for a quick and dirty holiday read this is the book for you. The chemistry between the three MCs is explosive. There was a slight twist at the end that gave all of them justice. I can’t wait to see what this author puts out next!

I've read books by this author before and even though I've enjoyed them, I thought this one would be like the others I've read. Boy was I surprised! This one has a twist near the end which elevated the story (in my opinion). I won't spoil it by describing the twist, read it and find out.

This is is one of the Hottest books I've read. I really enjoyed the twist at the end. Not just a 'Panty Soaking Wet' read ... It also has an interesting plot to it. I NEVER give reviews on books... But this one I Just Had To!
